Studying history of our culture may seem like a fruitless task. After all, who is interested in what happened a thousand years ago? Our ancestors might have lived in a particular manner and might have preferred a particular type of pottery. Who is to benefit from retaining this information?

Those who ignore history are condemned to repeat it. If you find history boring, you should find ways and means to make it entertaining. This is easier than people think. Why don’t you request your teacher to opt for certain innovative methods for short period of time to improve the entertainment quotient in history lessons?

How about organizing a puppet show? You can have simple puppets that indicate the great battles of the past. You can have a few students research about the topic and present a narration that will be accompanied by the puppet show.

All those who from a part of the audience will be required to present a paper on the lesson that they have learned. This form of interactive learning will help students understand history better. Of course, it also goes without saying that the students will get in touch with their creative side as well.

If your teacher has misgivings about the seriousness of the issue, you can request the professor to carry on with the traditional method of teaching after the puppet show has ended. Once the teacher realizes that the class is more attentive, he or she will automatically encourage you to try out such methods. As a student, the onus is upon you to make your life at school most entertaining.

Career Planning & Combination Of Student Curiosity And The Web Is Very Effective

There was a time when parents were the ultimatum source of information for any student interested in focusing on a specific educational field or career. However, things have changed beyond recognition today. Today, students are the ones who educate their parents by providing information about various career options.

There was a time when the prejudices and preferences of parents were given more importance. Today, the desire of the student to become a dancer, singer or even try his or her hand at acting is given more importance. So, what has changed?

It is the internet that is making a huge difference. No longer are students required to search for information only when they pass out of school. Career planning and focus on education has become a perennial affair. One can accumulate information over many years and use it accordingly.

One can even use friends on Facebook to get more information about different career options. The best part is that information is no longer restricted to the theoretical aspects. Rather, it covers all practical issues as well.

Another practical thing to come up on the web is online schools and degrees. Websites such as earnmydegree.com provide opportunities to working professionals and people who are always on the go. They have given an easy solution for all the aspiring degree holders

Does this mean that parents do not have any role in helping the child decide the career? Definitely not. However, the parents should not take up the task of searching for information and providing the same to the child. Rather, the parent should focus on being a mentor who shall provide course correction advice as and when required.

If the child is focusing on the positive aspects or is overestimating his or her capacity, it is essential for the parent to step in and speak the harsh truth even if it will be disliked. If this is not needed, then there is no need for parents to provide specific advice in career and studies related preparation. Kids are smart enough to use the resources at hand to take the right decision.

Types of College Financial Aid

Obtaining financial aid for college can be one the biggest worries for someone that is entering college. Getting into college is the easy part for many people, but actually paying for it is the difficult part. There are several types of financial aid available to those that are going to college or secondary school. These types of financial aid include grants, loans and scholarships. Most all incoming college students must fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to see what kind of aid they qualify for.

A grant for college means that a student does not have to pay the money back, much like a scholarship. Grants may be based on both need and merit, and the federal government is the largest provider of student grants in the United States. The most common grant, the Federal Pell Grant, is given to financially disadvantaged undergraduate students who cannot pay for college without financial assistance. Another type of Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant is awarded to students who cannot provide any money of their own to pay for college. Finally, the Montgomery GI Bill gives money to students that have served in the military and need assistance for tuition.

Loans are given students from both government and private resources. Most common types of federal loans include The Federal Family Education Loan and Stafford Loans and William D. Ford Federal Direct Loans. These loans do depend on credit scores, but often they will allow a co-signer if a student doesn’t qualify. Private loans may be given by banks or credit unions and are based on credit scores and often have higher interest rates.

Finally, scholarships are given for students that have need, display excellence in academics or athletics or a combination of both. Scholarships do not have to be paid back, and often there are separate applications with essays or interviews before scholarships are granted.

Knowledge Of Arts Is A Must To Have A Well Rounded Personality

Many individuals realize very late in life that arts, hobbies and skills rank equally along with one’s educational qualification. Of course, if you have been a topper throughout your educational life and have broken all records, then many may excuse your lack of hobbies.

However, history has taught us that all great persons who were good at academics never became great by simply studying all the time. Rather, they just happened to be very good and possessed natural skills. Most academic geniuses were good at playing instruments, drawing, painting or possessed other skills. Poetry was a common hobby for all.

It is considered therapeutic to have such an alternative skill in your hand. Hence, you should focus on not just your education and grades but also on improving your overall skills. It is important to focus on these things when you are still a student.

Once you complete educational life, nobody is going to ask you whether you are still playing the guitar or not. The fact that you know how to play it and the fact that you have learnt it will be sufficient to work in your favor.

Of course, to expect a child to understand this is asking too much. That is a reason why parents insist on these extra curricular activities. As you grow older, you will demand independence and will try to take your own decisions. It is at this point that you should understand the importance of such activities.

The best option is to opt for solutions that will help you inculcate all these skills as a part of your daily education. Just attending music classes in college would be a good way of keeping yourself in touch with your softer and emotional side. This is a good way of improving your resume even as you find ways to relax after a tough day’s work.
